My iPhone has recently joined me on my runs. I’m not a fan of running with my phone — especially since I have one of those nifty little clip-on Nanos — but I can’t say no after it once again managed to change my life in a way I had not predicted.
And its all thanks to the Nike+ GPS application!
I downloaded the app for free during a promotion to celebrate its 5th year, and I am HOOKED! It allows me to track my runs — pace, mileage, location — and then maps my run showing my high and low points. Along with my run info I can add notes and mark how I felt during the run — tired, energetic, etc, etc. — and it is all saved in my Nike+ account so I can track my progress over time.
It also maintains a playlist of power songs, makes announcements to tell me how far I’ve gone, and, if I want it to, it can cheer me on! There are also options to team up with friends and set challenges and play tag but I don’t know how to use this yet.
It is very cool! The first day I ran with it, I checked in afterwards and watched it map my run, showing me the distance, where my pace was weakest and strongest and how long it took me… and then it told the world by blasting it to FB and Twitter. Oh well, I’m gonna need the support!
I highly recommend this to runners, or walkers! Your Nike+ account is one place you want to watch the numbers grow…!
