After London we traveled Eastward to Bristol. Megabus pulled through again with a £5 ticket. We went to visit my housemate Cat in her hometown. She lives in a smaller town called Nailsea right outside Bristol. It’s very cute and Englishy.
She took us out to the most adorable quaint little pizza place when we arrived. I wish I took a photo of it. I do have a photo of us drinking at the pub afterwards. We got there too late to join in on the quiz so we just listened and scanned for cute boys.
She coincidentally lives about 20 minutes away from Bath so the next day we took the wonderful Britrail over to the old Roman city of Bath. Soooo cute! All the buildings match – it’s adorable. Typically we had to go to the Roman Baths – even though it was £8.50 for students. We are American, when else are we going to see Roman baths, ya know? Cat, being local, understandably couldn’t justify the price so she ditched us there to go wander the shops. We took an audio tour that explained every rock we passed. It was slightly overkill but I did learn a lot of info… info that I have since forgotten.
The baths are supposedly still steaming naturally and they look sooo appealing. Look at blue, or green, the water is – it’s pretty either way. It would be worth £8.50 if they let us sit in there and warm up for a while.
We listened to our tour and took our pics and got out to join Cat in the shopping. The shops are cute and we walked through a cute little market. Somehow we kept our shopping to a minimum and had enough to raid the fidge factory… twice. I just had to have a caramel and mini chocolate chip covered apple on a stick (since I had just given Azzy my plain and healthy apple I had in my bag after deciding I wasn’t in the mood for an apple.)
After a long day in the cold we trooped back to Cat’s house and her mom cooked a magnificant curry for the family. What a sweetheart! It was just what we needed to get back out and paint the city red. Back into Bristol we went to hit some of the bars on the canal front. It was such a cute area. I am surprised everytime I go to a new place in England how many chain bars they have. I have never seen any chain bars/clubs around home so it amazes me. Anyway, some old scary man tried to kiss me and I wanted to punch him in the face and I had a very very very strong Raspberry Cosmo. It was a good night.
The next morning it was Britrail back to Notts. Good we were one of the first to get on since another train broke and there were people standing everywhere… Azzy really wanted to take the train. Gotta love the Brit rail!
